The 3rd Russian rogaining championships took place on June 23-24 in a very picturesque terrain of Samarskaya Luka on the high bank of Volga river not far from Zhiguli village. The event was well organized by an experienced orienteering team from the city of Tolliyatti headed by Sergey Lysenkov.
A perfect 1:25000 map had been prepared specially for the event by best Russian mappers. The terrain was quite challenging: over 4000 m climb was performed by the strongest team to win the rogaine. Very hot weather with day-time temperatures over 30C made it even harder.
The Championships gathered over 110 participants from Perm, Samara, Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Omsk, St. Petersburg and other regions of Russia. The program included 3-, 6-, 12- and 24-hour rogaines. Polarteam from Moscow (Oleg Kalinin, Sergey Yashchenko) won the 24-hour rogaine, having visited 80 controls and scored 395 points. Arina-2 team from Nizhniy Novgorod (Olga Tvorogova, Evgeniy Dombrovskiy) took second place (345 points) and won the Mixed class. Julia Smirnova and Olga Shishkina from Perm were the strongest team in Women's class (214 points).
