A decision by the Australian Rogaining Association on the appointment of the Championships Manager for the 5th World Rogaining Championships is expected at the ARA annual meeting in July 2000. There have been several very strong applications for this position.
WARA turns 20
Western Australia is holding their 20th anniversary rogaine on 12-13 August 2000 near Bunbury south of Perth. This 24 hour rogaine will feature the schools championships, and have a special newsletter to mark the occasion.
Australian Rogaining Championships 2000
The 21st Australian Rogaining Championships will be held on 15-16 July 2000 around Scone northwest of Sydney. Entrants from overseas are most welcome, but should enter immediately. This is an ideal time to meet with many other leading rogainers, and also visit the 2000 Olympics city. The course is expected to be challenging with minimal flat areas, but pleasant country and open forest. Two all-night cafes will supplement the service of the main hash house.
Northern Territory Rogaine
The NT Rogaining Association is now one year old and runs its second 24 hour rogaine on 10-11 June 2000. Set in sandstone cliffs and old gold mining areas 150 km south of Darwin, the event promises cool nights, clear skies, plentiful water and delightful swimming holes.
North Queensland rogaining
Rogaining in north Queensland is very active with a 6 hour in May, a metrogaine, a 12 hour rogaine on September 9th, and a 6 hour rogaine in November 2000. Darren Osmond and Mark Newton are the Queensland Rogaining Association representatives behind these new developments that are happening 1000 km north of Brisbane in the tropics of northern Australia.

Perm rogaine, Russia
The second rogaining championship in Perm, Russia is scheduled for 2-3 September 2000. Cost is $US2 per entrant, maps and accommodation are provided, and camping is available for several days leading up to the rogaine. Perm, also known as Molotov, is a Russian city on the western side of the Ural Mountains near the headwaters of the great Volga River. It gave its name to the Permian Period of early Earth glacial activity (maybe even permafrost). Several trains run from Moscow to Perm each day, and the trip takes 21 hours. The first Perm rogaining championship was on 28-29 August 1999.
Czech rogaining
The Czech Rogaining Association has announced a busy rogaining programme for 2000. Their 24 hour Czech Rogaining Championship is on 24-25 June, the Polart 6 hour rogaine on 22 July, and a series of sports treks and mountain orienteering events fill the rest of 2000. The Czech Rogaining Association is acting as a focus for rogainers in nearby Poland, Slovak Republic and Slovenia.
Estonia rogaine
IRF correspondent, Andres Kaar reports that Estonia is planning their next rogaine on 10 October 2000 southeast of their capital city Tallinn. The terrain should be pleasant.
Canadian Rogaining Association
The 12-13th August will be a weekend of many rogaines around the world including a Sage 24 hour rogaine near Kamloops, BC. Those interested in attending should contact Allan Stradeski. at the Canadian Rogaining Association at woodski@mail.ocis.net.
China rogaining
Jianping Zhang from Beijing has made contact with the IRF regarding rogaining in China. He has mentioned plans to run their first rogaine and start a rogaining association.
New faces on IRF
The list of IRF contacts grows every few months as new parts of the world develop interests in rogaining, and key events come to pass. Regular reviews are needed to keep the IRF list to a managable number of around 30, and this review process is just complete. Thanks to all those who have contributed over the last few months and years, and welcome to our new state president, and representatives of China and Russia.
