The New South Wales Rogaining Association has become the third rogaining association to exceed a membership of 1000. Even more pleasing is their growth over the last year from 865 to 1070 members. Congratulations.
NSWRA held the first ecogaine on 23-24 March 2002. This was a collaborative venture between NSWRA, Macquarie University Bushwalking Club and the Wilderness Society. “The event aims to celebrate the cross-over between the outdoor community, which spends much of its time enjoying the bush, and the environmental movement, which plays an important role protecting it.”

During 2001, rogaines were held near each of the main centres in New Zealand. On 24 March the first Auckland Rogaine was held at Wairamarama near Port Waikato. On 19 May, the Autumn Mist Rogaine near Marlborough, 5-6 May TWALK around Canterbury area, on 5 August the Bootlace Rogaine in the Wither Hills near Blenheim, and on 1-2 December an 18 hour rogaine near Marlborough. A series of three shoestring 3-hour rogaines were run on evenings as practices during October – November. Land access issues caused the cancellation of a rogaine at Waioura.

www.top.cz/wrc2002Queensland Rogaine Association turns 10
On 27/28 October 2001, the Queensland Rogaine Association held its 10th Anniversary Rogaine in granite country SW of Brisbane. Congratulations to the QRA on this significant milestone.
Meanwhile at the other end of Queensland, 1000 km to the north, a small group of enthusiasts have run their 23rd rogaine (all types) in the tropical conditions of Cairns and Townsville. These events attract strong local support and sponsorship, and face different hazards such as the haze from sugar cane fires this Spring. Details: Mark Newton newtonmr@prose.dpi.qld.gov.au.
25th Anniversary Rogaine
The Victorian Rogaining Association held the 25th Anniversary Rogaine on 1-2 December 2001 in central Victoria, 100 km north of Melbourne. That event marked the anniversary of the world’s first rogaine held north of Melbourne on 4/5 December 1976, also run by the Victorian Rogaining Association in association with the Surrey Thomas Rovers. The 2001 rogaine was also the Victorian Rogaining Championships, and attracted a number of competitors and spectators who had been active in rogaining during the 1970s. Also assembled was almost the complete catering team from the very first Surrey Thomas Rovers rogaine in December 1972.
North American Rogaining Championships
These are scheduled for 16-17 July 2002 in an area west of Kamloops, British Columbia that has not been used for rogaines for many years. Course setter will be Murray Foubister; the organizing team is from the Sage Orienteering Club who ran the 3rd World Rogaining Championships in 1998.
1st USA Rogaining Championships
These are scheduled for 14-15th September 2002 around Tamarack. Note there are citizenship requirements on who is eligible for the title, but rogaine entry is open to all. www.rogainingusa.org
Control Cards
The Victorian Rogaining Association has printed a large number of generic waterproof control cards that would be suitable for groups organizing their own rogaines. These are waterproof cards designed specifically for standard control punches. Contact VRA President Chris Solnordal csol@connexus.net.au to take advantage of this generous offer. vra.rogaines.asn.au
Swedish Rogaining
The Taby club is planning the largest rogaine in Sweden on 20th October near Stockholm.
